Director Vikraman in the audio launch event of Naan Yaarendru Nee Sol featuring Keerthidharan as hero, new face Surekha as heroine and Gajesh – Veteran actor Nagesh’s grandson as the villain has made his remarks about GST and state tax.
“Whenever I take part in any film event I usually don’t speak anything apart from the movie. But today there is a necessity. Theaters in Tamil Nadu have been shut down for the past two days and it has inflicted unimaginable loss to the film industry. With 28% GST and 30% state tax, how can the industry survive? The industry is ready to pay GST but the state government has to remove its 30% taxing. The tax exemption introductory by Karunanithi was followed by Jayalalitha too. Chief Minister Palanisamy should extend his support to the film industry like how Karunanidhi, MGR, and Jayalalitha who found their way to politics through cinema have done,” said Vikraman, president of the directors’ union.
